MEC Motlhabane Participated in the Successful Annual Taung, Ward 20 Easter Road Safety Prayer and Moral Regeneration Program

MEC Motlhabane participated in the successful Annual Taung, Ward 20 Easter Road Safety Prayer and Moral Regeneration Program. This event is a precursor to the Easter weekend celebration. During this period, more often than not, sorrow and sadness often visit families and communities suddenly through fatal accidents and road crashes.

During the service motorists were called upon to take responsibility and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy as well as observe speed limits. Motorists were also reminded that they must rest after driving for 200km or rest every two (2) hours of driving. Resting and leg stretches must also occur at a safe place too.

Meanwhile MEC Motlhabane, reflected in his keynote address that; "I am reliably informed that road D201 is an accident prone. The road has reportedly claimed a total of 15 lives, with 6 people having died on this stretch of road between Kgomotso and Kameelpits alone".
There was a peaceful protest march against the Kgomotso Police Station but today the personnel in Kgomotso police has been increased significantly to combat the increase in stock theft, contact crime and acts of criminality.

The ward committee report reflected that Ward 20 will soon have a Vehicle Registering Station and a Traffic Station. This is where the vehicle owners will be able to register their new vehicles. Including effecting changes to vehicle registrations, especially from other provinces to North West Province as well as renewal of vehicle discs, will also be done in this facility.

"Ladies and gentlemen, road D201 from Seoding to Kgomotso village has been budgeted for and the necessary processes to appoint a contractor are underway. Poverty alleviation and joblessness will be reduced as unemployed youth and community members will benefit as part of the labour cohort and sub-contracting in this massive construction", Emphasised MEC Motlhabane.

Kgosi Kgolo Mothibi, of the Batlhaping ba ga Mothibi Tribal Council, in her vote of thanks, congratulated this award-winning ward 20 for having won Greater Taung Local and Dr Ruth Mompati District Municipality award for being a fast developing and a service delivery oriented ward. She was excited that the Ga Mothibi villages are receiving the necessary attention from government regarding service delivery.

She also used the opportunity to clarify that the matter of the re-demarcation of Ga-Mothibi area to its historical origin, the Northern Cape, is about to be concluded. She indicated that the delays were from the Northern Cape side as North West has long finalised its own processes.

Furthermore, the program started with D201 road cleansing ceremony that was facilitated by Chaplain Batshelakang prior to the formal program at the Thota ya Tau Cover Ground. Community Safety and Transport Management chaplaincy, local religious leaders and congregants.

Over 500 jubilant and Easter-struck celebrants were in attendance. Singing, hymns and choruses, dancing and receiving music from a local brass band. Many congregation were clad in their church regalia and uniform. ANC regalia clad community members were also visible in the crowd.

Religious leaders took turns to preach about Jesus' 'Mantswe a supileng, a Sefapano', 'last seven messages before the Cross'.

MEC Motlhabane also reminded the gathering that the Easter celebration prayers should be dedicated to the upcoming, 8th May 2019 National and Provincial Elections.

"These elections too must be peaceful, free and fair. We pray that God should bless this period of electioneering and voting. We pray for these political leaders in our midst to be granted favour in to once again serve the people of this province and the country in general". Concluded Rev. Morakanele.
